Interview with AkronHipHop.com

"The Brand himself" Rich P

We've been doing this "black media" thing for quite a few years. Some of you may be familiar with our programming on Time Warner Cable's channel 15 and channel 23. During those years I personally have had the chance to meet alot of good people that were doing alot of good things.

One of those people came in the form of a local rap group called The Union. I always thought that those young brothers had what it took to make a lasting impression on the rap scene here in Akron. More importantly, they had that sound that could've easily came from the vaults of Def Jam or any other major NYC record label.

If I could pick a front man from The Union, it would have to be Rich Porter a.k.a Rich P. He (and his group) is easily one of those people that I met back in the so-called "day" that really made an impact on our television programs.

Now Rich P continues to build his brand as a soloist/CEO with about 10 albums/projects under his belt. His latest project titled
The Price
of Freedom is hitting the streets July 15th of this
year.

When talking to Rich P, I was able to learn a few things about what motivates him to stay relevant
as far as music goals. He said that he look at things from a business perspective and ultimately sees himself doing more things on the executive side. Also to hear him talk about "our people and our struggle" is liberating.

In-closing, if you listen to any of his music you'll be able to get a message out of the music. That's right, "even the hardest street "ni#@a need to hear something with some consciousness/real talk". With that being said, check out my conversation/interview with him below. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
